DFW Airport Partners with Overair to Explore eVTOL Operations Across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Overair, a leading developer of advanced electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the potential for vertiport development and eVTOL operations in the DFW Metroplex.

The collaboration will focus on assessing the feasibility of passenger eVTOL services across North Texas. Overair’s flagship eVTOL aircraft, the Butterfly, represents the next wave in urban air mobility, offering innovative, point-to-point electric air transportation solutions.

“DFW Airport has a longstanding commitment to preparing for the aviation needs of the future,” said Paul Puopolo, Executive Vice President of Innovation at DFW Airport. “By exploring the future of air mobility today, we aim to position the entire DFW Metroplex for the next era of transformative aviation.”

“This agreement is a significant milestone toward introducing Advanced Air Mobility to one of the largest and fastest-growing metropolitan regions globally,” said Valerie Manning, Chief Commercial Officer at Overair. “We’re excited to collaborate with DFW to provide the region’s more than 8 million residents and millions of visitors with safe, fast, affordable, and environmentally friendly travel options.”

Key Objectives of the Agreement

The partnership establishes a joint working group to investigate policies, infrastructure, and operational requirements necessary to integrate a sustainable eVTOL program at DFW Airport. This includes evaluating procedures for approach, landing, taxiing, charging, passenger operations, departure, and safety protocols.
Additionally, Overair will lead a comprehensive analysis of regional demand for advanced air mobility services and develop potential scenarios for eVTOL flight operations to and from vertiports within the Metroplex.
