Foundations of Airport Digital Transformation
This intensive workshop equips participants with the strategic frameworks, operational insights, and practical tools needed to address critical gaps airport digital maturity. The curriculum is aligned with ITIL 4.0, ACI best practices, and global smart airport benchmarks.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
Understand what digital transformation means in airports and why it matters.
Recognise the stages of digital maturity and where your airport stands.
Understand the role and value of data in airport operations and how it can be used effectively.
Identify key airport systems and how they share and use data.
Build confidence and interest in using digital tools and exploring new technologies.
Pre-Workshop – executed 1 week prior to workshop:
-
Digital Readiness Survey (anonymous, used for framing sessions)
-
Participant Baseline Knowledge Poll (5–10 short questions)
Workshop Syllabus:
Module 1. Understand Digital Concepts in Context
Describe what "digital transformation" means in an airport operations context.
Explain key terms: digital systems, digital maturity, smart airports, data integration, and interoperability.
Module 2. Explore Digital Maturity
Define "Digital Maturity" using industry-recognised models like CMMI.
Understand how digital maturity is measured, including where your airport might currently stand.
Identify basic steps for progressing along the maturity curve with simple examples.
Module 3. Demystify Data in Airports
Recognise different types of data in airport operations (e.g. passenger, flight, baggage, operations).
Understand the value of data when used effectively—how connecting data improves decision-making and efficiency.
Explore how data can be monetised or strategically used.
Module 4. Appreciate System Basics and Integration
Identify key airport systems (AMS, BRS, FIDS, CUPPS) and what data they use/share.
Learn basic concepts of system interoperability: what it means when systems "talk" to each other.
Understand what an API is in very simple terms, and why APIs are used.
Module 5. Foster a Digital Mindset
Identify examples of how digital tools (like IoT or AI) can improve daily tasks.
Gain awareness of how innovation labs and benchmarking help other airports evolve.
Encourage curiosity and confidence to learn more about digital tools and strategies.
